Session

A new system of continuing professional development (CPD) was established across the pharmacy profession (approximately 6,000 pharmacists) in Ireland in 2016. Under this system, pharmacists have a statutory responsibility to engage in reflective practice and to develop a self-directed, needs-based, outcomes-focused approach to continual learning and development. This highly reflective approach differs significantly from CPD requirements for most other professions, which generally are inputs-focused, in that they focus on the completion of hours of training or attainment of credits. During this session we describe the coaching approach that was used to support pharmacists in engaging with this new system over the past three years, and report on the levels of engagement with the new system.
