Reverse mentorship has reappeared in the professional world. For the most part, it seems to be an effort used when seniors are afraid of losing touch with the everlasting and rapidly growing digitisation. But do we confuse ordinary learning with mentoring when we talk about reverse mentoring? Are we getting hold of the young mentor’s experiences and the different approach to the work? Are we able to put the older mentee in a learning situation so that genuine mentoring can take place?

We believe it is necessary to focus on the learning situation and the conditions for exchange between mentor and mentee if we are to succeed with genuine reverse mentoring. Therefore, the training of mentor and mentees must be thought differently. We must teach the young mentor to be the experienced one – and the older mentee must learn to learn. Come and let us discuss how.

Lisa Ott is an independent mentoring expert and one of the pioneers in mentoring in Denmark. She has been working with mentoring in countless companies since the 90s. Lisa has been responsible for the development of mentoring programmes in organisations such as Danish Broadcasting, ISS, the Engineers Trade Union, Greater Copenhagen (for international students), The Film industry in Denmark, the University of Copenhagen – among many others. Together with Else Iversen, she has started a network for mentor programme managers in Denmark. In 2017, Lisa Ott received an award from the EMCC for her work on mentoring in Denmark.

Else Iversen is an independent executive coach, coach trainer, and supervisor with extensive experience with leaders at the senior most levels across a number of sectors. Moreover she has, for the last decade, developed and managed one of the largest mentoring programmes in Denmark. The trade union for Economists and Lawyers offers a range of mentoring initiatives. Else Iversen has been the head of the development also in the transition phase towards digital matching. Her back ground includes an MA in Computational Linguistics, a master in Public Management, and a Master of Business coaching – that only lacks handing in the Master Thesis.
